Onward referrals for University of Salford students

Onward referrals for University of Salford students

This guidance provides a process for referring University of Salford students back to the University Wellbeing Team for further support in the following circumstances:

a) If the short term counselling service is not able to support the student adequately at the present time (e.g. high risk/safeguarding needs, active eating disorder which is the main presenting issue in therapy)
b) When short term counselling is coming to an end and the student still requires further support or more long term support to manage their mental health or other concerns.

This article replaces previous guidance on referring University of Salford students to the Greater Manchester Universities' Mental Health Service.

The process for referral is as follows.
1) Discuss with the student and ensure they are happy for you to make a referral to the University wellbeing team for further support on their behalf.
2) Complete the attached referral form, preferably with the student in session so that you can obtain their views on how their current difficulties are affecting them and what they feel they need.
3) Complete a support ticket and attach the completed form, or email the completed form to network.clinical@vitahealthgroup.zohodesk.eu with the subject line "University of Salford onward support referral". If you also need to discuss whether the student remains suitable for the counselling pathway, or needs additional sessions to support them while a referral is made, please raise a clinical review/additional sessions request via MPB for this separately.
5) A member of the network clinical team will check the referral form is completed appropriately and gives sufficient information for the Wellbeing team to understand the student's needs, and will send it on to the University wellbeing team. If the team need further information about the student, they will contact you directly.
